During 2024, 285 judges were dismissed

During January-December 2024, the Supreme Council of Justice made a decision regarding the dismissal of 285 judges. With her notice, this decision covers both the general and special circumstances that led to the dismissal.

Under general circumstances, 248 judges were dismissed from their posts. Of them, 238 judges resigned by submitting relevant applications. Among them:

  • 147 judges of local courts;
  • 66 judges of appeal courts;
  • 6 judges of the Supreme Court;
  • 7 judges of the Higher Administrative Court of Ukraine;
  • 3 judges of the Higher Economic Court of Ukraine;
  • 9 judges of the Higher Specialized Court of Ukraine for consideration of civil and criminal cases.

In addition, 10 judges of local courts submitted applications for dismissal of their own volition.

Regarding special circumstances, the Supreme Council of Justice dismissed 37 judges. Among them:

  • 31 judges were dismissed for serious disciplinary misconduct;
  • 6 judges were dismissed in accordance with subparagraph 4 of paragraph 16¹ of Chapter XV “Transitional Provisions” of the Constitution of Ukraine based on submissions and recommendations of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine.

Thus, the year 2024 became a period of significant changes in the judicial system of Ukraine, associated with the dismissal of a significant number of judges under various circumstances.
