During the work of the current Verkhovna Rada, 52 deputies lost their mandates

The Verkhovna Rada of the 9th convocation works with the smallest number of deputies in the entire history of independent Ukraine. For five years of work, the mandates are premature made up a record 52 people’s representatives, six of whom lost their powers due to the termination of citizenship.

This convocation became the second one that began work without a full constitutional composition. In 2019, 423 deputies were sworn in, while 27 mandates remained vacant due to the impossibility of holding elections in occupied Crimea and some areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. As of today, only 400 deputies work in the parliament, which is the lowest figure in history.

The faction “Servant of the People” suffered the most losses – 21 representatives of the party lost their mandates. A significant part of these deputies left the Council for positions in the government or other state structures, as the “Servants of the People” party list served as a personnel reserve for the authorities.

Already after the first meeting of the Council on August 29, 2019, five deputies from “Servant of the People” took ministerial seats, and three became ministers in the following years. This convocation was also the first when the Cabinet of Ministers was formed not according to the proportional principle, but mainly from representatives of one party. The exception was Defense Minister Rustem Umyerov, who represents the “Voice” party.
