Elon Musk presented the Cybercabs robot taxi

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and owner of the X social network, unveiled the long-awaited robot taxi called Cybercab at a large-scale event held at the Warner Bros studio near Los Angeles. This event marked an important step in Tesla’s development, as Musk unveiled a futuristic robotaxi model with two doors shaped like gull wings and no steering wheel or pedals. This innovative vehicle is designed to change the concept of road transport, paving the way for an autonomous future, which Musk said would contribute to Tesla’s long-term growth.
According to Reuters, Musk said that the production of Cybercabs will start in 2026, and the cost of these cars for customers will be less than $30,000.In addition, the operating cost of transportation, according to him, will be only 20 cents per mile. He emphasised the benefits of autonomous vehicles, noting that most traditional vehicles are used inefficiently, sitting idle for a significant amount of time.‘If you make them autonomous, they can be used five or even ten times more,’ Musk said in his speech.
The event was preceded by considerable enthusiasm on social media, with users actively sharing speculation and screenshots of invitations. However, investors and analysts remain cautious about self-governance technologies, noting possible technical challenges and tempering their expectations.
Cybercab is planned to be used as part of a fleet of self-driving taxis that passengers will be able to call through a special app. Musk also said that owners of private Tesla cars will have the opportunity to earn money by registering their cars in the app as robocabs.
The event was symbolically named ‘We, the Robot’, which is a reference to Isaac Asimov’s sci-fi story ‘I, Robot’. Musk uses this term to emphasise that Tesla should be seen not only as an automaker, but as a company that is engaged in robotics and artificial intelligence, which is the basis for the future development of transport.
