EU launches large-scale campaign to support Ukrainian education during the war

The European Union has launched a new communication campaign called ‘Learning and Growing Together’ aimed at supporting Ukrainian education and youth in times of war. This was reported by the press service of the EU project ‘Ukrainians for the European Union’ (CEU4U).
The all-Ukrainian campaign was launched on 27 September 2024 at the Book Country festival held at VDNH. As part of the event, the EU organised an educational space with themed tents called the ‘Space of Opportunities’ and the ‘Lecture Hall’, where EU-funded projects presented their achievements and programmes. Visitors were able to take part in discussions, lectures, interactive activities, and enjoy musical performances.
Unique opportunities were created for children and adults, including:
- Learn about the innovative Collider project dedicated to technology, education, pop culture and history;
- Take part in quizzes with prizes from the Euroquiz and European Youth Ambassadors projects.
During the presentation, EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova stressed the importance of this initiative, as the war has radically changed the lives of millions of Ukrainians, especially young people. She said: ‘The younger generation, which has suffered from the loss of normal conditions for learning and development, needs our full support. Our goal is to create a safe educational space for schoolchildren, students and teachers and provide the necessary methodological, technical and psychological assistance.’
The ‘Learning and Growing Together’ campaign will run until January 2025 and will cover all regions of Ukraine. The initiative will include:
- Awareness-raising events;
- Expert discussions;
- Meetings with representatives of EU projects and programmes;
- Press events.
Ambassador Mathernova also stressed that it is very important for children who are forced to study under the threat of shelling and in the context of blackouts not to lose the quality of education. ‘These children show incredible courage and deserve our full support, as they will be the ones to build a European Ukraine,’ she said.
