Europe will increase the production of shells to 2 million in 2025: Kubilius

In 2025, EU countries plan to produce approximately 2 million artillery shells. About this stated European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andryus Kubilyus.

According to him, currently only 20-25% of the weapons supplied to Ukraine are produced in Europe, while the majority is purchased abroad. To increase production, long-term contracts with defense enterprises are necessary, but there are still not enough of them. Without such agreements, it will be impossible to significantly increase the production of weapons and ammunition in the coming years.

“Money from the EU budget cannot be used to purchase weapons for Ukraine. There are a number of restrictions on investments in the defense industry outside the EU. However, money from the European Peace Fund or from frozen Russian assets can be used to purchase weapons.” Kubilyus noted.

He also announced that Ukraine will receive about 30 billion euros from the EU in 2025. The Ukrainian side will independently determine which part of these funds to direct to defense needs. In addition, a mechanism for the integration of the Ukrainian defense-industrial complex into the European defense industry is being developed.
