Russia is considering the possibility of involving North Korean engineering forces in the war in Ukraine. Expert Stupak emphasized that this idea is not new, and neither are the Russians are considered her for many years. According to him, from May 2022, Russia dreamed of inviting up to 100,000 North Korean soldiers, but so far the plan has not been implemented.

Currently, the expert estimates that Russia can receive approximately 10-12 thousand North Korean engineering troops, who will be involved in the construction of fortifications and fortifications, as well as the clearing of territories. The cost of such a “transfer” is estimated at approximately 115 million dollars per year, which, according to the expert, is not critical for Russia.

When asked whether the DPRK could send its riflemen to help Russia in the war with Ukraine, a military expert advised to look at this situation through the eyes of North Korea. According to him, if they send a significant number of their troops, it will reduce their offensive potential against South Korea, which will create a vulnerability.

“The other side, imagine these 10 thousand leave and they start to see that there is a different life, other countries, people live differently, much cooler even despite the war, than in North Korea. Then, when they return, 100-500 thousand different questions may arise for the authorities: how come, you said that everything is bad there, but here it turns out that everything is not so bad, that it is worse here“, Stupak noted.

Stupak emphasized that the North Korean military will not be involved in the front line, and the resources obtained will allow the Russian military to be freed to participate in active hostilities. At the same time, he noted that the large number of troops from North Korea could affect its own military potential in the event of a possible conflict with South Korea.

The expert also noted that sending North Korean soldiers could have socio-political consequences for North Korea, as they could see a different life while away from home and question their authorities about the realities of life abroad.
