Every fifth recruit is a woman: 20% of candidates for the Defense Forces of Ukraine

Since the beginning of the work of the recruiting centers of the Ukrainian army, 36,760 citizens have received consultations on the possibility of joining the military service. Of them, 8,053 have already become candidates for the Defense Forces of Ukraine. The main trend of this process is that 20% of recruits are women, that is, every fifth candidate. About this informs Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The level of female participation in the military varies by region, and in some areas the rate is higher than the overall average. The largest percentage of women among candidates for the Defense Forces of Ukraine was recorded in Chernivtsi Oblast (46%), Khmelnytskyi Oblast (42%), Ternopil Oblast (38%), Rivne Oblast (33%), Chernihiv Oblast (31%), Odesa Oblast (29%) and Sumy Oblast ( 27%). In the online recruiting center, this figure is 37%.
Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Brigadier General of Justice Serhii Melnyk emphasized that women occupy key positions in the army, performing staff, medical and combat tasks. They are active in the field of unmanned technologies, medicine and cyber security.
According to specializations among women who joined the army through recruiting centers, the distribution looks like this:
- 24% chose staff positions,
- 22% work in medical units,
- 13% specialize in drone management,
- 12% perform the functions of cooks,
- 6% are engaged in shooting specialties,
- 6% work in the field of communications and cyber security,
- 3% chose the profession of a military psychologist.
There are 48 recruiting centers in Ukraine that offer more than 10,000 vacancies in various military formations. These centers do not issue subpoenas, and all consultations are conducted confidentially.
