Ex-People’s Deputy Svyatash was sentenced to 12 years in prison for fraud and calls to change the borders of Ukraine

Former People’s Deputy of Ukraine Dmytro Svyatash was sentenced in absentia to 12 years in prison. The court found him guilty of public calls to change the state border of Ukraine, legalization of illegally obtained funds, and fraud, which resulted in damages in the amount of 2.2 billion hryvnias.

About this informs Office of the Prosecutor General.

As the investigation established, in 2022 the convict published posts on Facebook that justified Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, recognized the legality of the occupation of Ukrainian territories, and called on residents of the occupied territories to cooperate with the occupation authorities and Russian banks.

In addition, in the period from 2008 to 2014, the ex-national deputy, being the beneficiary of a group of enterprises, organized a scheme of non-repayment of loans in the amount of more than 50 million US dollars. To obtain a loan, he gave the bank about 200 real estate objects and corporate rights as collateral. After the due date for the return of funds, the convict forged documents and re-issued the mortgaged property to other companies under his control, thereby avoiding the fulfillment of his obligations to the bank. As a result of these actions, losses in the amount of UAH 2.2 billion were caused.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the Investigative Department of the State Police in Kyiv under the operational support of the SBU.
