Fatal accident in Lviv region: 7 people killed, three injured

Today, December 15, a tragic traffic accident occurred in the village of Chyzhikiv, Lviv region, involving three vehicles: a BMW passenger car, a DAF truck and a Mercedes Sprinter minibus.

For information the police of the Lviv region, 7 people died as a result of the collision — all of them were passengers of a Mercedes Sprinter minibus. Three other participants in the accident were injured. They are a 45-year-old truck driver, a 39-year-old minibus driver and a 23-year-old Mercedes passenger. The injured were hospitalized in Lviv hospitals. Their diagnoses are currently being clarified.

Due to the accident, the traffic on the road where the accident occurred was partially blocked. Law enforcement officers and rescue services are on the scene.

Investigators have opened criminal proceedings based on part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine following the accident. This is a violation of the rules of road traffic safety or the operation of transport by persons driving vehicles. The sanction of the article provides imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with possible deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of up to three years.

The circumstances and causes of the tragedy are being established. The police urge drivers to be careful on the roads and obey traffic rules, especially in the conditions of worsening weather conditions, which are characteristic of the winter period.
