Fico called the Ukrainian troops Nazi: the reaction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, made a loud statement, claiming that the so-called “Nazi troops” are fighting in Ukraine, and emphasized that the world is allegedly turning a blind eye to this fact. These words rang out during his speech at the Holocaust Museum in the city of Sered.
According to Fico, the international community is showing hypocrisy while simultaneously condemning war crimes, but allowing compromises, which, according to him, “insult the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and racial discrimination.”
“We all talk about fascism, Nazism, and at the same time we silently put up with the fact that there are units in Ukraine that have a very clear designation, which are associated with movements that we consider dangerous and forbidden today. Since this is a geopolitical battle, it nobody cares”, – declared Fizo.
Fico was also outraged by the fact that in Slovakia people with a “different opinion” are often called “fascists”.
“The international community must recognize that it is impossible to allow troops who use Nazi designations, who often behave like this, to fight in Ukraine”, – said the head of the government of Slovakia.
Reaction of Ukraine
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed its disappointment with Fico’s words. Kyiv emphasized that such rhetoric contradicts the level of trust and cooperation between Ukraine and Slovakia.
“Ukrainian soldiers are currently defending their relatives, homes and country, as well as all of Europe and the free world from the Russian invaders, marked with the Latin letters “Z” – a symbol of the fascist aesthetics of modern Russia.” – specified in the message.
The statement also reminded that the opposition to Russian aggression for the Ukrainian people is a continuation of the long-standing struggle against totalitarianism, which haunted Ukraine throughout the 20th century.
“We count on the joint efforts of Slovakia and all our European partners in countering the latest Russian evil, which has brought atrocities on Ukrainian soil unseen since the Second World War”, – the ministry wrote.
The position of the Slovak authorities regarding the war in Ukraine
Robert Fico and his party “Course – Social Democracy” returned to power in Slovakia. Fico declared his intention to stop military aid to Ukraine and oppose its accession to NATO. He also repeatedly expressed pro-Russian views, calling the war on Ukrainian territory a “frozen conflict.”
