How many Ukrainian citizens want to serve in the Polish Legion: official response of the Polish Ministry of Defense

The recruitment of volunteers for the Ukrainian Legion started in Poland, and as of October 4, 196 people had applied. About this reported Deputy Minister of Defense of Poland Pawel Zalewski, noting that a large-scale campaign is underway in the city of Lublin to attract volunteers to this legion, which can be joined by all citizens of Ukraine.

Zalevsky also added that applications come not only from Ukrainians who are in Poland, but also from various European countries. He noted that as soon as the first group consisting of several hundred volunteers is formed, their training will begin.

“We are ready to start training programs immediately, as soon as there is a sufficient number of volunteers”, he emphasized.

In addition, Zalevsky reminded that Poland has already trained more than 20,000 Ukrainian servicemen as part of the European training program.

He also emphasized the great interest in the Legion not only among Ukrainians in Poland, but also throughout Europe.

“At the moment, 196 people have applied to join the Ukrainian Legion, and this number continues to grow.” he added.

In July, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski, declared significant interest in the Ukrainian Legion, but later the Minister of Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysh, noted that the number of volunteers was insufficient for the rapid formation of the unit. Currently, the recruitment of volunteers is actively underway, and Ukrainians have the opportunity to sign a contract, undergo a 35-day training, and also improve their qualifications at NATO bases in Europe.
