EU and the world

For the first time, the United States did not sign a WTO statement condemning Russian aggression

The USA did not support the statement of the World Trade Organization (WTO), which condemns full-scale Russian aggression against Ukraine. About this informs Reuters.

This is the first time that Washington has refrained from supporting such an initiative since 2022, when the Russian invasion began.

The draft decision was supported by 45 WTO members, including Ukraine, the European Union, Great Britain, Canada and Australia. At the same time, the representative of the USA explained that such a decision was taken in accordance with the previously stated position of Washington in the UN Security Council and at the meeting of the UN General Assembly.

The WTO statement expresses serious concern about the consequences of the war for Ukraine and world trade, in particular regarding the supply of agricultural products, fertilizers and minerals from Ukraine to international markets.

“We are seriously concerned about the consequences of these disruptions for Ukraine and global trade, in particular for the supply to international markets of a number of key goods produced in Ukraine, including agricultural and food products, fertilizers and critical minerals.” – said in the statement.
