From May 1, 2025, new standards for traffic lights will be introduced in Ukraine

From May 1, 2025, the rules for using traffic lights will change in Ukraine. The green light will be replaced by an emerald one, and the design of the arrows indicating the direction of movement will be updated. These changes provided for by the new standard DSTU 4092:2024, developed by the Ukrainian Research and Training Center for Standardization, Certification and Quality.
The emerald color, which will replace the traditional green, was chosen for its brightness, saturation and slight bluish tint: it provides better visibility and makes it easier for drivers to perceive. Also, instead of the usual solid arrows, chevrons will appear on the traffic lights. They are applied to the lenses, are more visible from a distance and allow drivers to quickly orient themselves in the directions of traffic.
Traffic lights for cyclists will also undergo changes. They will be equipped with a special bicycle symbol, and the size of the lenses will depend on the location: 100 mm for those installed next to cycle paths and 200 mm for traffic lights above the carriageway.
In addition, pedestrian and traffic lights will be equipped with countdown timers, new signal call buttons and sound notification devices.
Oleksiy Biloshitskyi, First Deputy Chief of the Patrol Police Department noted, that the introduction of new standards is aimed at harmonizing Ukrainian rules with European norms.
