The Russian delegation at the talks in Istanbul put forward demands unacceptable to Ukraine: MFA
During the negotiations in Istanbul, the Russian delegation put forward a number of demands that were considered unacceptable by Ukraine. About this reported the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tykhy, during a briefing on the results of the negotiations.
According to him, demands from the Russian Federation were voiced at the meeting, which Kyiv considers unacceptable. In response to journalists’ questions about the content of these demands, Tykhiy noted that he did not have the authority to disclose the details of the negotiation process due to diplomatic considerations, but emphasized that the Ukrainian side clearly defended its position.
“I can say that there were indeed a number of demands from the Russian side that were unacceptable to the Ukrainian delegation. We were preparing for this, the Ukrainian delegation knew that this would happen. Therefore, it kept a calm tone and calmly defended its line, expressed its position. We believe that the Ukrainian delegation did it effectively enough.”, – noted Tychy.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also noted that the delegation of the Russian Federation probably had a limited mandate and was not ready to sign any documents related to the ceasefire.
“We stuck to our position, led our line and returned the discussion to those points that are important to us. This is something that can really be achieved. And if we managed to agree on at least one position, the exchange of a thousand for a thousand, then it is already very important. Because it will make at least a thousand Ukrainian families happy. This is an achievement of the Ukrainian delegation.” – he concluded.
