Fuel prices in Ukraine may rise to 75-80 hryvnias per liter due to an increase in excise duties

The founder of the “Prime” group of companies, Dmytro Lyushkin, said on the air “Public. Studio”, that the price of gasoline at gas stations may increase to 75-80 hryvnias per liter due to the government’s planned increase in excise duties on fuel.

The Cabinet of Ministers proposes to increase excise duties on gasoline, diesel fuel, and liquefied gas in order to bring Ukrainian legislation closer to European legislation. Lyushkin noted that although this step could be postponed, the government decided to implement it now to fill the budget.

According to him, after the implementation of the EU directive, fuel prices in Ukraine will be equal to European ones.  year The first changes, which will take place already this summer, may lead to an increase in fuel prices if the price of oil remains unchanged.

According to the government’s plan, excise taxes on fuel will increase in stages over five years, from 2024 to 2028. The biggest increase is expected for diesel fuel – 2.4 times, from 139 to 330 euros per 1,000 liters, which can add UAH 9.6 to the price per liter at the current exchange rate of the euro. Also, the excise duty on gasoline will increase by 1.7 times, from 213 to 359 euros per 1,000 liters, which will potentially increase the cost of a liter by 7.3 hryvnias. In addition, the excise duty on liquefied gas will increase, but less significantly – from 52 to 70 euros per 1,000 liters, which may add 0.9 UAH per liter to the price.
