Hetmantsev proposes to oblige tax officials to wear body cameras

Head of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, Danylo Hetmantsev spoke with the initiative to make the wearing of body cameras mandatory for all inspectors of the State Tax Service.
Hetmantsev noted that today body cameras are used only selectively, which, in his opinion, significantly reduces the effectiveness of this mechanism. He also added that he understands why such an initiative causes resistance both among tax officials themselves and among individual entrepreneurs who avoid paying taxes.
“I understand why the tax people don’t like it. I understand why those taxpayers who don’t write checks and work in the shadows don’t like it.” – he explained.
Video recording eliminates the possibility of manipulation, abuse, extortion of bribes, attempts to informally resolve issues and allows you to clearly determine who is to blame in a conflict situation.
“But only if their application is general and mandatory. For all taxpayers. Otherwise, there is no point.” Hetmantsev emphasized.
He criticized the current position of the DPS, which defines the use of body cameras as an inspector’s right, not an obligation. According to him, this approach causes serious concern and needs to be reviewed.
Hetmantsev reminded that the use of body cameras during actual inspections was introduced as part of the reform of the State Tax Service in 2024. He is convinced that the general implementation of video recording will help ensure transparency and objectivity in the work of tax officials.
