Hungary blocks the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU

Hungary blocks the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radoslav Sikorskyi. informs Onet.
“We feel a special responsibility for this (the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s membership). We would, of course, like to open one, maybe two negotiation clusters, but, unfortunately, the decision is blocked by our long-time friend and former ally – Hungary.” – said Sikorsky after the meeting of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers in Brussels.
The Minister reported that during the Council meeting, a lively discussion took place regarding the negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU. The participants agreed that the decision to start negotiations should be based on the fulfillment of the criteria and not on bilateral issues. In addition, Sikorsky noted that he intends to appeal to the Polish opposition with a request to influence Hungary’s position.
“I have to turn to the Polish opposition, which maintains close ideological contacts with the government and the party of Viktor Orbán, and ask them to do something good for Poland and Europe, namely to convince their ideological comrades to unblock these issues.” – emphasized the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry.
