In Iran, 19 people were killed and almost 5.6 thousand were injured during the Festival of Fire

In Iran, during the celebration of Chaharshanbe-Suri, or the Festival of Fire, which is celebrated on the last Wednesday of the year according to the Islamic calendar, 19 people died, and almost 5,600 others were injured. About this informs TRT News.

“The number of people who died in Iran during the celebrations and preparations for the Chaharshanbe-Suri holiday, which is held on the last Wednesday of the Islamic calendar year, has risen to 19, and the number of injured has risen to 5,568”, — reports the Center for Emergency Situations of Iran.

It is noted that 338 victims lost limbs, and 1,557 received eye injuries. Six people died during the preparation of explosives a few days before the celebration. Despite the warning of the police about the ban on the use of explosives and the control of their use with the help of drones, it was not possible to avoid deaths and injuries.

Chaharshanbe-Suri is an ancient Iranian fire festival on the eve of Nowruz. It symbolizes the arrival of spring and the rebirth of nature. Traditionally, during the celebration, children and young people jump over bonfires, light fireworks, homemade explosives and sparklers.
