A pro-Russian Bulgarian politician encroached on part of the Odesa region, Ukraine reacted
Kostadin Kostadinov, the leader of the pro-Russian Bulgarian party “Renaissance”. did a provocative statement about Bulgaria’s alleged “claims” to part of Odesa region. This caused a sharp reaction from the Embassy of Ukraine.
Kostadinov stated that the majority of the population of Southern Bessarabia (the southern part of Odesa region) is Bulgarians, and the alleged “logical solution” would be “the return of this region to Bulgaria.”
“Ukraine is disintegrating, and at the upcoming peace congress, which will decide the fate of the so-called Ukrainian statehood, which did not take place, Bulgaria must declare its claims to Bulgarian Bessarabia”, – noted the Bulgarian politician.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Bulgaria responded by calling on the country’s leadership to condemn such statements. The embassy emphasized that such statements incite a violation of international law, distort historical facts and support the idea of revising borders in Europe.
“The statement of the leader of the “Renaissance” party regarding territorial encroachments on Ukraine is unacceptable for a politician of an EU member state, and they confirm his systematic promotion of the Kremlin’s narratives”, – said in the statement of Ukrainian diplomats.
