In Korea, an 80-year-old actor from “Squid Game” was convicted of sexual harassment

South Korean 80-year-old actor Oh Yeon-soo, known for his role in the TV series “The Squid Game”, was found guilty in a case of sexual harassment. About this informs Daily Star.
“During the trial, prosecutors described Oh Yeon-soo as a seasoned theater actor with nearly 60 years of experience who sexually harassed a colleague who had no power in the troupe. The victim lived in fear both professionally and personally.” – the message says.
A statement against the actor was filed by his former colleague, who claims that he “unauthorizedly hugged”, “touched the body and kissed the cheek without permission.” According to her, the incident happened in 2017, but she spoke about it publicly only in November 2022. Initially, the investigation was closed, but later the case was reopened.
The 80-year-old actor was sentenced to one year in prison. Initially, the court passed a sentence of eight months in prison with a two-year probationary period, but later the decision was changed.
The actor himself stated that his actions were a manifestation of “fatherly feelings”, and commented on his sentence as follows:
“It’s humiliating to stand trial at this age. If I said or did anything inappropriate, I’ll accept the sentence. But I don’t believe my actions were an attack. If in a brief interaction my careless words or actions caused pain, I’m sorry. In an instant, everything I’ve built over 80 years has come crashing down. I feel devastated.”
Oh Yong Soo has over sixty years of acting experience in the film industry. He starred in a number of television series, the most famous of which are “Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter… and Spring Again” and “The Squid Game”. For his role in the last project, the actor received the “Golden Globe” award in the nomination “Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series or Movie.” He was personally congratulated with this award by the President of South Korea.
