In Kyiv, the Museum of Monumental Propaganda will be created on the territory of VDNKh

The National Complex “Expocenter of Ukraine” has announced a competition for the study of the history and concept of the VDNG as a space of Soviet ideology. This study will become the basis for the creation of the Museum of Monumental Propaganda on the territory of the Ukrainian National Socialist Republic. About this reported “Expocentru” press office.

Specialists with experience working with cultural heritage, as well as researchers who have implemented visual or analytical projects dedicated to the culture and art of the Soviet era, are invited to participate. They will provide expert recommendations on the reinterpretation of the VDNG in the context of decommunization and decolonization, which will help shape the concept of the future museum.

The idea of creating a museum appeared back in 2016, but today it is gaining special relevance. Since 2014, the process of decommunization has been ongoing in Ukraine, and since 2022, decolonization is actively unfolding. At the same time, back in 2008, 19 objects of the “Expocenter” were entered into the State Register of Immovable Monuments as a complex monument of architecture and urban planning of local importance, and in 2021 the Cabinet of Ministers granted it national status.

The study of the Soviet past of the VDNG and the creation of the Museum of Monumental Propaganda will allow combining the preservation of heritage with its modern reinterpretation. After all, Soviet history is embedded in the very architecture of the complex: pavilions, buildings and symbols are already part of the future exposition. These objects were built in the Soviet period and have survived to this day without significant changes, so VDNG is a natural place for such a museum.
