In May, NATO will conduct an audit of Ukraine’s military education system

On May 1st, an institutional audit by NATO representatives of higher military educational institutions belonging to the system of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine begins. Its positive results can become an important step towards the recognition of Ukrainian military diplomas in NATO member states. For this informs press service of the Ministry of Defense.
If the inspection, which will be carried out by experts of the North Atlantic Alliance, is completed successfully, it will open the possibility to certify courses of professional military education in accordance with NATO standards. Documents on completion of such courses will be recognized by the Alliance states, which will contribute to increasing the interoperability of Ukrainian military educational structures with the educational systems of member countries.
The audit will take place in stages, with the financial support of Lithuanian partners. At the initial stage, NATO experts will provide educational institutions with eligibility and evaluation criteria that will become the basis for verification and further certification of professional education courses. In May, higher military educational institutions and relevant units of universities must prepare self-evaluation reports and fill out questionnaires according to the defined NATO criteria in the field of education.
In the period from June to September, NATO experts will analyze the submitted materials. In the fall, the Alliance delegation is scheduled to visit Ukraine to hold meetings with representatives of the military education system. The final audit report is expected in December 2025.
“The results of the institutional audit of the military education system will provide an objective assessment of the implementation of recommendations based on the results of the 2020 audit. Professional military education in Ukraine is gradually entering a new level of development.” – noted Director of the Department of Military Education and Science of the Ministry of Defense Volodymyr Mirnenko.
We remind you that with the assistance of the NATO DEEP program, active strengthening of the training system of Ukrainian military specialists in the areas of professional development, leadership, combat experience, language training and other key competencies is already underway.
