In May 2025, demining units of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine cleared 7,847 hectares of territories freed from Russian occupation of explosive objects. About this informs press service of the Ministry of Defense.
The main part was agricultural land – more than 7,600 hectares. Sections of highways, power lines, railway tracks, pipelines and small areas of residential areas were also demined. During this period, sappers discovered and defused 6,818 IEDs, bringing the figure to 445,680 since the start of the full-scale invasion.
The following are involved in demining de-occupied territories:
- groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
- State special transport service;
- explosive units of the National Police;
- pyrotechnics of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
According to the Law of Ukraine “On Mine Action in Ukraine”, only specialized operators have the right to engage in humanitarian demining. As of the end of May, 87 mine action operators were officially certified in Ukraine.
