SBU exposed a large-scale scheme to sell “rear” military positions

Military counterintelligence and investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine exposed and liquidated a large-scale scheme for the sale of “rear” military posts in the Kyiv region.

As the Security Service of Ukraine established, those involved in bribes of 15,000 to 25,000 US dollars contributed to the transfer of servicemen to units that are not involved in front-line combat operations.

In addition, the attackers offered dismissal from the service based on fake medical certificates about “severe deterioration of health”. As part of a special operation in Kyiv, two residents of the capital, the organizers of the scheme, were detained. They involved five familiar medical workers in the implementation of the device.

According to the investigation materials, the organizers sought out clients and issued false hospitalizations for them. Depending on the size of the bribe, the “patients” were given the status of limited suitability or completely unsuitable for military service, which allowed them to be transferred to “non-combat” positions or to be released into the reserve.

The security service documented the illegal actions and detained the organizers right when they were receiving money from customers. During the searches, cash obtained illegally, as well as forged documents, were found in the possession of the accused.

The SBU investigators announced that the detainees were suspected under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • h 1 Art. 114-1 — “obstructing the legal activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations in a special period”,
  • h 3 Art. 369-2 — “abuse of influence.”

The extras face up to eight years in prison with confiscation of property. The investigation is ongoing with the aim of identifying all those involved. Comprehensive measures were carried out under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
