In South Korea, it was not possible to arrest President Yoon Suk-yeol

South Korean investigators have been unable to execute an arrest warrant for South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol, who was ousted by parliament after being impeached over his attempt to impose martial law. About this informs Yonhap agency.

At the beginning of the week, the Office for the Investigation of High-Level Corruption obtained a court warrant for the detention of Yoon Seok-yeol. However, the implementation of this decision proved impossible due to mass protests: thousands of the president’s supporters gathered near his residence to prevent the arrest.

The police managed to disperse some of the protesters, but their number may increase significantly during the weekend. There is also a risk of aggravation of the situation due to possible conflicts between the investigators and the presidential security service.

Yoon Seok-yeol himself said that the country is in danger due to the actions of internal and external forces that threaten its sovereignty, as well as due to the activity of anti-state groups. He promised to fight to the end to protect South Korea.

The president’s legal team filed a motion to suspend the warrant, calling it “illegal.” However, the agency reports that an attempt to detain Yoon Seok Yeol may take place as early as today, as the warrant expires in 48 hours. If arrested, he will be taken to the CIO Headquarters in Gwacheon for questioning, and later transferred to the Uiwan City Detention Center.
