In Ukraine, UAVs with a magnetometer began to be used for demining

In order to increase the efficiency of detecting mines and other explosive remnants of war, non-technical survey groups of mine countermeasures operators implement modern technologies. In particular, in the Mykolaiv region apply industrial unmanned aircraft complex (UAV), equipped with a modern magnetometer.
This type of drone is used for remote detection of dangerous objects during the survey of de-occupied territories.
“With the help of this complex, it was possible to significantly improve the quality of conducting a non-technical survey of potentially contaminated territories and to strengthen the safety of the personnel of the non-technical survey teams”, — noted Volodymyr Manzhos, representative of the Main Department of Mine Action, Civil Protection and Environmental Safety.
During the flight, the drone moves along a given trajectory over the surveyed area, and a magnetometer suspended from it records changes in the Earth’s magnetic field in a strip 2 meters wide, tying all the data to geographic coordinates. The system allows detecting explosive objects both on the surface and underground.
One complex can check more than 10 hectares of territory per day. After the scan is completed, the collected data is processed using special software. Based on the results, a map of the area is formed, on which the likely locations of dangerous objects are marked. If necessary, these maps are used by mine action operators to compile reports based on the results of non-technical surveys.
