Japan handed over equipment to Ukraine to inspect bridges and roads

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) handed over equipment for surveying bridges and roads to the State Reconstruction Agency of Ukraine. About this reported press service of the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development.
Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development Maryna Denysiuk, Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine Masashi Nakagome and head of the Reconstruction Agency Serhiy Sukhomlyn took part in the equipment transfer event.
“We have taken another important step in our cooperation with Japan. The equipment that the agency received from our Japanese partners is designed to increase road safety and the efficiency of work on projects, in particular those aimed at the restoration of roads. The damage caused by Russian aggression to the Ukrainian transport sector is currently huge – more than 77 billion dollars, of which almost 30 billion is needed specifically for the restoration of state roads and bridges on them. Thank you JICA and the Government of Japan for consistent and stable support of Ukraine”. Maryna Denysiuk said.
The equipment provided under the Emergency Recovery and Reconstruction Project is intended for the State Recovery Agency and the National Infrastructure Development Institute.
In particular, the following were transferred to Ukraine:
- high-precision equipment for surveying transport infrastructure, primarily destroyed bridges;
- specialized cars for checking the state of state highways.
In addition, the Grant Agreement (phase 4) provides for the additional supply of attachment equipment for these vehicles.
We will remind that at the beginning of 2023, Ukraine and Japan agreed on the allocation of more than 700 million dollars for reconstruction needs, in particular within the framework of JICA projects. The first grant agreement under the Emergency Recovery Program was signed on March 9, 2023, after which three stages of the program have already been implemented. In early April 2025, an agreement was signed for the fourth phase, which provides for the allocation of 58 million dollars for areas such as humanitarian demining, energy, water supply, health, security, education and infrastructure reconstruction in the regions.
