Katy Perry will fly into space as part of an all-female crew

American singer Katy Perry will be a member of the first all-female crew to go into space aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard tourist ship. About this informs BBC.

The New Shepard rocket will launch from the Texas Cosmodrome on April 14 at approximately 1:30 PM GMT. The flight is organized by the private space company Blue Origin, founded by Jeff Bezos. This will be the eleventh manned launch of the New Shepard rocket and the thirty-first in the history of the entire program.

The duration of the flight will be about 11 minutes. During this time, the crew will rise to a height of more than 100 kilometers above the Earth’s surface, thus crossing the internationally recognized border of space.

The crew will also include journalist and Jeff Bezos’ fiancee Lauren Sanchez, aerospace engineer Aisha Bovet, bio-astronaut Amanda Nguyen, producer Keriann Flynn and TV host Gayle King. The flight will be New Shepard’s eleventh with a crew on board and the thirty-first in the mission’s history overall.

“Kathy is honored to be part of Blue Origin’s first all-female team and hopes her journey will inspire her daughter and others to reach for the stars, literally and figuratively.” – says the company’s statement.

We will remind that on January 16, 2025, Blue Origin successfully launched the New Glenn rocket. Thanks to seven reusable BE-4 engines, the rocket entered orbit, having achieved its main goal – the launch of the second stage and cargo into space.

Meanwhile, a booster rocket called So You’re Telling Me There’s A Chance failed to land successfully on a platform in the Atlantic Ocean, losing communications and losing data during landing. Despite this failure, the company realized the main goal of the mission — an orbital launch.
