Macron says France will recognize Palestinian state

French President Emmanuel Macron announced about the intention to officially recognize the state of Palestine in September. He plans to make a corresponding statement during his speech at the session of the UN General Assembly.
“True to my historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the State of Palestine. I will make a solemn declaration at the United Nations General Assembly in September.”, – said Macron.
The President also emphasized the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the release of hostages and the provision of large-scale humanitarian aid to the residents of Gaza.
“It is also necessary to ensure the demilitarization of Hamas, the security and reconstruction of Gaza. Finally, it is important to build the state of Palestine, ensure its viability and enable it, by accepting its demilitarization and full recognition of Israel, to contribute to the security of all in the Middle East. There is no alternative.” – he emphasized.
It will be recalled that in 1988, Palestine, part of which is under the control of Israel, declared its independence. As of today, it has been recognized by more than 140 of the 193 UN member states, including Ukraine. Among the European states, Bulgaria, Hungary, Cyprus, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Sweden recognize Palestine. None of the countries of the “Big Seven” (G7) has taken such a step.
