Metropolitan Onufriy of the UOC-MP was deprived of Ukrainian citizenship

On the basis of the collected materials, the Ukrainian citizenship of Orest Berezovsky, Metropolitan of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate, known as Onufry, was terminated. About this informs press service of the Security Service of Ukraine.

The SBU found out that back in 2002, Berezovsky voluntarily acquired Russian citizenship, but did not inform the Ukrainian authorities about it. Despite this, he continued to enjoy the rights of a citizen of Ukraine.

According to the information of the Security Service, Berezovskyi (Onufriy) maintains constant contacts with the Moscow Patriarchate and actively obstructed the process of obtaining autocephaly by the Ukrainian Church. His actions are seen as purposeful support for structures that justify Russia’s aggression.

Even after the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he remains loyal to the policy of the Russian Orthodox Church and its leader, Patriarch Kirill (Gundyaev). Kirill publicly supported military aggression against Ukraine, resorting to rhetoric that justifies violence and even calls for the destruction of the Ukrainian people. His activities are part of a wider propaganda campaign that promotes the criminal actions of the Russian political leadership.

The SBU continues to take measures to strengthen national security and counter hostile influences on Ukrainian society.
