Mexican President Rejects Trump’s Proposal to Send US Troops to Her Country to Fight Drug Trafficking

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, said that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, during a telephone conversation, offered her to send the American military to Mexico to jointly fight against drug trafficking. About this informs Reuters.
According to Sheinbaum, she resolutely rejected this initiative, emphasizing the inviolability of Mexican territory and sovereignty.
“I said: No, Mr. President Trump, our land is sacred. Sovereignty is not for sale, it is respected and protected.” she declared.
The Mexican leader emphasized that, despite the possibility of partnership in the field of security, her country will never allow the presence of foreign troops on its territory.
The US National Security Council confirmed the fact of the dialogue between Trump and Sheinbaum, noting that both sides “worked to secure the strongest southern border in history.” At the same time, Washington admitted that joint results could not be achieved so far.
“Foreign terrorist groups remain a serious threat, and the drugs and violence they bring undermine the security of American communities.” – said the department.
It will be recalled that earlier Donald Trump publicly promised that the USA is ready to resort to unilateral military action if Mexico cannot deal with the drug cartels on its own. Meanwhile, the Pentagon continues to increase its military presence along the southern border: after the opening of the first military zone in New Mexico, another one has been created in Texas. There, the US military has the authority to temporarily detain migrants and people crossing the border illegally.
