Military personnel are entitled to monetary compensation for renting housing: Ministry of Defense

Servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other units of the Defense Forces are entitled to monetary compensation for renting housing at the place of service, if they do not have their own housing in this territory. About this reported press service of the Ministry of Defense.

The amount of compensation is established by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine each year depending on the funding provided for in the budget for the relevant year. Appointment and payment are regulated by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated June 26, 2013 No. 450 and the Instruction approved by the Order of the Ministry of Defense of July 31, 2018 No. 380.

The amount of compensation in 2025, in accordance with the decision of the Minister of Defense dated January 23, 2025 No. 2640/z, is:

• in the city of Kyiv — UAH 4,560;
• in regional centers — UAH 3,420;
• in other settlements — UAH 2,280.

If a serviceman has three or more family members, the amount of compensation increases by 1.5 times. If there is a right to several types of compensation payments, defined by various legal acts, the serviceman chooses one of the grounds for receiving the payment.

The following can receive compensation:

• officers (in particular, those who serve under the draft of officers), sergeants, foremen and privates of contract service;
• cadets of military universities and units of higher educational institutions who have families;
• other military personnel, except those mobilized before the conclusion of the contract.

To issue compensation, a serviceman submits a report to the commander of a military unit. During the review of the report, data on the ownership of housing by the serviceman and his family members are checked through the State Register of Real Property Rights.

The living conditions of the family are also checked. This inspection is carried out by the housing commission of the military unit, drawing up a corresponding act or certificate, which is handed over to the commander for a decision.
