MIT graduates stole $25 million in cryptocurrency in 12 seconds: two brothers will be tried in the USA

Two brothers, graduates of the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), are under investigation in the United States for allegedly stealing $25 million worth of the Ethereum cryptocurrency. The crime was committed using a sophisticated scheme that allowed them to carry out the theft in just 12 seconds.
About this informs BBC.
According to the BBC and UNN, 24-year-old Anton Per-Bueno and 28-year-old James Per-Bueno are accused of fraud and money laundering. The US Department of Justice calls this case the first of its kind.
Prosecutors say the brothers developed their scheme over several months, using specialized knowledge gained at MIT. They fraudulently accessed pending transactions and intercepted them, misappropriating the victims’ cryptocurrency.
According to Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, the scheme calls into question the integrity of blockchain technology. Ethereum representatives confirm that the brothers refused to return the stolen funds and took steps to launder them.
Each of the accused faces more than 20 years in prison for the crimes committed.
