Moldovan President Accuses Russia of Preparing to Interfere in Parliamentary Elections

The President of Moldova, Maya Sandu, said that Russia is preparing for an unprecedented interference in the parliamentary elections, which will be held in September. About this informs NewsMaker.
According to Sandu, the Kremlin finances several political projects in order to bring its representatives to the future composition of the parliament. All these initiatives, Sandu stressed, are coordinated from one center and receive funding through schemes linked to fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor.
The president warns that disinformation campaigns and attempts to manipulate public opinion from abroad, the organization of paid protests, and attempts to disrupt voting among the diaspora are expected. She also drew attention to the possibility of cyber-attacks, which can be directed both against the digital infrastructure of elections and against other critical infrastructure objects.
Moldova is preparing to use the church in the interests of a foreign state, as well as to attract so-called “opinion leaders” and online influencers who will spread messages directed against the European course of the country.
“This should not scare us, it should mobilize us. Russia’s intervention carries serious risks for public order and national security, and most importantly, it can dramatically undermine the country’s sovereignty and our European future.”Sandu noted.
The president also emphasized that state institutions are ready to counter such threats.
“In the near future, they must act in a more coordinated, professional and united team to protect national interests. A difficult period lies ahead, dear citizens. But our future depends only on us.”, she added.
