In the state of Texas, where the rocket company SpaceX is based, Elon Musk officially founded the city of Starbas. About this informs AR.
Voters in the southern part of Texas overwhelmingly supported the creation of the new city of Starbas on the territory around the SpaceX test site. According to the voting results published on the website of the district election commission, the residents of the community, located near the headquarters and launch site of SpaceX rockets, decided to form a city with a result of 212 votes “for” against 6 “against”.
At the same time, the first officials of the newly created city were elected – all three are current or former employees of SpaceX and ran unopposed.
The 1.45 square mile town of Starbas is actually populated by SpaceX employees and their families. As the company notes, it is currently unable to provide sufficient housing for employees who want to live near their workplace. An attempt to build new townhouses was recently rejected by local authorities.
About 260 company employees live in this enclave, and including their family members, the total population is about 500 people. More than 3,100 employees commute daily from Brownsville and other communities.
The city has an unusual atmosphere – futuristic production facilities, orderly rows of monotonous buildings and a large bronze bust of Elon Musk create the impression of scenes from a science fiction film.
