In Tbilisi, the night was marked by clashes between police and protesters

On the night of November 29, clashes took place in Tbilisi between the police and demonstrators who came out to protest after the statement of the ruling party “Georgian Dream” about the termination of negotiations on joining the EU until 2028. Dozens of protesters were detained during the actions.

For information edition of Paper Kartuli, after 3:00 the protesters started setting off firecrackers, to which the police responded by using water cannons and special equipment, pushing people in the direction of Republic Square. Several journalists were among the victims, including Guram Rogava and Lekso Keshelashvili.

The protests took place near the Parliament of Georgia and the central office of the Georgian Dream party. They began after Prime Minister Irakliy Kobakhidze announced the suspension of European integration negotiations and refusal to accept budget grants from the EU.

Demonstrators called this decision a betrayal of national interests and a violation of the Constitution, which enshrines Georgia’s desire for European integration. They argue that such actions by the government jeopardize the country’s European future and destroy years of efforts to get closer to Europe.
