NATO Secretary General confirms that the second Rheinmetall defence plant will start operating in Ukraine soon

German defence group Rheinmetall is completing the construction of its second plant in Ukraine. The first plant was opened recently. This was announced by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte during a press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Rutte stressed that Germany’s defence industry plays a key role in ensuring Europe’s security and supporting Ukraine’s defence.
He also noted that in Bavaria, American and European companies, together with NATO, have launched the production of 1,000 anti-aircraft missiles for the Patriot air defence system at a new plant.
‘The German arms company Rheinmetall has just opened its first plant in Ukraine, and the second plant will be built soon. And since 2022, Rheinmetall has significantly increased its ammunition production,’ Rutte added.
According to him, NATO countries must increase production rates to ensure the safety of a billion citizens.
‘That is why we are stepping up our support for Ukraine and are already working with the European Union and other like-minded partners around the world,’ the Secretary General stressed.
Rheinmetall in Ukraine
In late October, Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger announced the opening of the company’s first plant in Ukraine. In total, the company plans to build four such plants in the country, one of which will specialise in ammunition production.
