Not like others: the ombudsman showed the cells where former “high-ranking officials” of the Department of State Criminal Enforcement Services are serving their time

The Ombudsman’s office carried out a monitoring visit to Minsk Correctional Colony No. 91 in Chernihiv Oblast. It revealed numerous violations of human rights: unsanitary conditions, fungus, cockroaches. About this reported Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets.

According to him, the management of the colony turns a blind eye to this, while the Ministry of Justice says that “everything is fine.”

At the same time, Lubinets writes, there is an exception – three privileged people live in proper conditions and are isolated from the general public. This is the ex-head of one of the Departments for the Execution of Criminal Punishments of the Ministry of Justice and two of his supporters. Good conditions were created for them already after arriving at the institution: only for these persons, repairs were carried out in 2024, despite the humiliating conditions in other sections of the colony. What’s more, they have at their disposal as many as five premises of the department of social and psychological service No. 7. When there are more than 370 people in the colony!! Also, these people have their own walking yard, and food is served to them in their rooms. The question arises: why exactly for these people such “rest” conditions?

All the above-mentioned facts indicate injustice and interest of certain persons. I have already contacted the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, where they did not see anything strange in this. After that, he once again sent another letter to them, and also separately addressed the law enforcement officers.

“I am waiting for an appropriate response to such privileged detention against the background of general disorder and violations of the rights of other convicts!”, – said the official.
