NSDC expects Russia to resume massive attacks on Ukrainian energy sector in the near future

The Russian Federation may resume massive shelling of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in the near future, probably with the beginning of the heating season. This was stated by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksandr Lytvynenko during the opening of the “Energy in Industry-2024” exhibition. transmits Interfax-Ukraine.

“With the beginning of the heating season, you can expect massive Russian strikes on energy”, — noted Lytvynenko.

He also emphasized that during the full-scale war, the Ukrainian energy system demonstrated the ability to adapt and implement innovative solutions, and the enemy’s plans to destroy the Ukrainian economy are not bringing the desired result.

Since the beginning of 2023, Russia has carried out nine large-scale attacks on energy facilities in Ukraine, which caused a shortage of capacity during peak consumption hours. During the summer shelling and high temperatures, the power supply for domestic consumers was also periodically cut off, but at the beginning of autumn the situation with electricity stabilized.

The Center for Combating Disinformation proposed several possible scenarios for the development of the situation with electricity supply in Ukraine for the autumn-winter period. According to the optimistic version, electricity will be supplied for 12 hours a day.
