From April 1 to June 15, the so-called “quiet season” traditionally lasts in Ukraine — an annual period established to protect wildlife during the mass reproduction of animals. This period provided The Law of Ukraine “On the Animal World” applies to all those who live or carry out activities in the natural environment – forests, steppes, near water bodies. Its main goal is to minimize human intervention in the lives of animals during the most sensitive period of their life cycle.
The legislative “season of silence” was introduced in 2016. According to Article 39 of the law, activities that may create increased noise or disturbance for animals are prohibited at this time. Among the prohibitions:
- shooting and explosive works;
- use of fireworks;
- carrying out sanitary felling in the forest;
- use of motor boats;
- organization of car races and rallies.
Local authorities have the right to introduce additional restrictions in regions where mass reproduction of wild animals has been recorded. Violation entails administrative responsibility — imposition of fines.
Spring is a critical period for many species. Loud noises or human presence can force animals to leave nests or burrows, which threatens the death of the offspring. Birds of prey and representatives of hunting fauna are especially sensitive to such influences. For example, logging in the forest can destroy nesting sites or disturb the peace of the habitat.
“Season of silence” plays an important role in the preservation of biodiversity, contributes to the restoration of bird and animal populations and the maintenance of ecological balance.
Walking in nature is not prohibited, but a number of rules must be followed:
- avoid loud music and shouting;
- do not light bonfires, do not use motor vehicles;
- do not swim in motorized boats;
- do not tear plants, do not catch insects, do not destroy anthills;
- do not touch bird nests or animal burrows.
By following these simple requirements, everyone can contribute to the conservation of wildlife and help it pass the breeding season in peace.
