One of the regions of Germany will pay 119 thousand euros to consultants for the resettlement of hamsters

For this amount, "selective monitoring of field hamsters" was carried out to determine the range of their distribution.

One of the regions of Germany decided to provide comfortable living for field hamsters by hiring special consultants. 119 thousand euros were spent on this work. About this informs German publication BILD.

The budget for consultants in 2023 was recently discussed in the Landtag of the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt. It turned out that the authorities spent a total of 43.5 million euros on them, which is almost five times more than in the last five years.

The regional Ministry of Economy, Energy and Climate Protection concluded 35 contracts worth 3.8 million euros. These costs included 119,000 euros for “selective monitoring of field hamsters” to determine their habitat.

In addition to hamsters, consultants were involved for the resettlement of bats, spiders, beetles and beavers. Their services were also worth a lot of money. 49,000 euros were spent on similar measures for bats, 39,000 euros for spiders and beetles, 37,000 euros for beavers, and more than 250,000 euros for amphibians and reptiles.

Earlier, in another region of Germany, Thuringia, 2.5 million euros were allocated for the relocation of 39 field hamsters. The population of field hamsters in Germany has been declining since the 1970s, so they are under special protection.
