Orban hopes for Trump’s initiative on Russia’s war against Ukraine if he wins

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban hopes that if he wins the election, US Republican President Donald Trump will immediately take the initiative to resolve the conflict in Ukraine diplomatically, dpa reports.
‘We are preparing,’ Orban said during a discussion event in Vienna on Thursday after a phone call with Trump.
Orban is considered one of Trump’s main European allies.
‘In the shortest possible time, they will sit down with the Russian president,’ Orban said, referring to a potential Trump administration.
American voters will go to the polls on Tuesday to elect a new president. Orbán has not hidden his hopes for Trump’s victory over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, the newspaper notes.
Orban said on the social network X that he had spoken to Trump on Thursday: ‘I wished him success next Tuesday. There are only five days left. My fingers are crossed for him.’
In Vienna, Orban said that the main goal of possible talks between Russia and the United States would be to prevent the conflict in Ukraine from affecting world politics in the future. Orban noted that it is not about complete peace between Moscow and Kyiv, but only about ‘stopping the loss of human lives through a ceasefire,’ the newspaper writes.
