Trump is angry with Putin and threatens to impose additional tariffs on Russian oil
US President Donald Trump said he was “very angry” and “furious” over Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statements in which he questioned the credibility of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s leadership, adding that these words were “off the mark.” Trump also threatened to introduce new tariffs on Russian oil in the event of a disruption of the peace agreement by Moscow. That’s what he’s about reported in an interview with NBC News.
“If we can’t come to an agreement with Russia to end the war, and if I think it’s Russia’s fault, which may not be the case, but if I think it’s her fault, I’m going to put secondary tariffs on all Russian oil. If you buy oil from Russia, you can’t do business in the US. There’s going to be a 25% tariff on all oil, a tariff of 25 to 50 points on all oil.” Trump emphasized.
He clarified that he plans to introduce secondary tariffs of 25% on oil and other goods that will enter the US from Russia. According to Trump, without a peace agreement, the tariffs will remain in place for at least a month. He added that Putin is aware of his irritation, but stressed that they have a “very good relationship” and that “anger dissipates quickly if he does the right thing.”
We will remind you that last week Putin proposed to introduce a “temporary administration under the auspices of the UN” in Ukraine in order to hold elections and sign the main documents to end the war. At the same time, the Constitution of Ukraine and current legislation do not allow elections to be held during martial law. Until its cancellation, the authorities must continue to perform their duties.
The European Union emphasized that it is Ukraine that has the right to independently determine the time of elections. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres noted that the Ukrainian government is legitimate and should remain an object of respect.
