Over 1,000 English-language books can be read for free: a new project of the Ministry of Education

The government launched Futulib, an online collection of over 1,000 English-language books of various genres. Ukrainians can read and download books for free. The initiative was implemented as part of the Future Perfect project, aimed at improving the knowledge of the English language among citizens of Ukraine.
Books are divided by level of difficulty. The list of books includes detective stories, science fiction and even philosophical treatises. Among the authors are Aristotle, Agatha Christie, classics of ancient literature, etc. You can download works for free by installing the Librarius application.
This approach (the offer of free books) was chosen for the joint project of the Ministry of Digital, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, since the majority of Ukrainians mastered the skill of reading in a foreign language.
“In a world where English is the language of international communication, its knowledge gives access to new opportunities and self-development. A survey on foreign language proficiency showed that Ukrainians have mastered reading skills the best. Therefore, Future Perfect offers convenient and affordable tools to improve English precisely because of its strengths — reading in the original,” he notes Valeria Ionan, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for European Integration.
The Librarius app allows you to read books offline. Therefore, having created their library, readers will be able to use it even during power outages.
According to the data research, conducted by the Ministry of Digital Transformation in 2023, only 23% of Ukrainians can read, write and communicate in English at a professional or at least everyday level. At the same level, Polish is spoken by about 10% of our fellow citizens, German by 5%, and French by about 2% of Ukrainians.
Given the fact that there are up to 5 million refugees abroad, the level of knowledge of foreign languages among Ukrainians should increase. However, not all migrants intend to return to Ukraine after the end of the war.
