Pentagon chief says Trump’s talks with Putin are not a betrayal of Ukraine

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that Trump’s desire for a quick peaceful settlement and negotiations with Putin cannot be seen as a betrayal of Ukraine. About this informs The Guardian.
Hegseth emphasized that the Russian aggression was a restart of production for NATO, as well as a moment of realization that this alliance must be reliable, strong and real.
“This is why President Trump called for increased defense spending for NATO, so that European countries recognize that this is an urgent, real threat to the continent, and this aggression should be a wake-up call.” – he noted.
Hegset emphasized that deterring Russian aggression is an important European responsibility. Regarding the question of whether the latest actions and statements of the United States can be considered treason against Ukraine, he stated:
“There is no betrayal here. There is recognition here that the entire world and the United States are invested in and interested in peace. Negotiated peace, as President Trump said. He emphasized that the killings must stop, and that requires both sides to admit that this is not what they want.”
