A cable car with a record slope of 160% was opened in Switzerland

On the way to the top of the Schilthorn mountain in Switzerland, a unique cable car started working on December 14, which has the steepest slope in the world – 160%. About this informs Austrian edition Vienna.at.

The road section between Stechelberg and Mürren was a real engineering achievement. The cable car is equipped with two cabins, each of which can accommodate up to 85 passengers. Thanks to this, it can transport up to 800 people every hour. The ascent time is less than four minutes, and the height that the road overcomes is 775 meters.

This modern infrastructure is equipped with the innovative AURO (Autonomous Ropeway Operation) system, which allows partially autonomous operation. Cameras and sensors ensure a high level of security, and a special robot optimizes the transportation of luggage and cargo, which adds convenience for passengers.

The cable car cabins were developed by Carvatech, part of the Doppelmayr group. They have unique panoramic windows that open, allowing passengers to enjoy unforgettable views of the Alps without any obstruction. An additional advantage is the energy-saving system: energy is produced during braking, which significantly reduces electricity consumption.

As a reminder, Schilthorn is known for its historical and cultural significance. In 1969, key scenes of the James Bond film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service were filmed here. In the film, this mountain was called “Piz Gloria”. Since then, the Schilthorn has become a popular tourist attraction and a symbol of the adventurous atmosphere.

The new cable car not only simplifies access to the Schilthorn, but also opens up new opportunities for tourists and locals alike, combining advanced technology, convenience and an exciting experience in one of the most picturesque parts of Switzerland.
