Pentagon orders $3.5 billion batch of AMRAAM missiles for Ukraine and allies

The US Department of Defense signed a $3.5 billion contract with Raytheon Technologies to manufacture AMRAAM missiles and related equipment for supply to Ukraine and partner nations. About this informs service to the Pentagon.

As stated in the message of the US Department of Defense, supplies are planned for Ukraine, as well as for 18 other countries: Denmark, Belgium, Japan, the Netherlands, Canada, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Spain, Poland, Sweden, Taiwan, Lithuania, Great Britain, Australia, Switzerland, Israel and Kuwait.

The contract covers the production of the missiles themselves, telemetry systems, spare parts, as well as the provision of engineering support. All work will be performed in Tucson, Arizona and will continue through the third quarter of fiscal year 2031.

AMRAAM missiles are the primary armament for the F-15, F-16, F/A-18 and F-22 fighters. Depending on the modification, the cost of one rocket varies from 1.2 to 1.97 million dollars. One version of these missiles is also used in NASAMS air defense systems. In this configuration, AMRAAM is capable of hitting targets at a distance of 20-25 km, and in the AMRAAM ER (Extended Range) version – up to 40 km.

In addition, the system has the ability to hit air targets at a distance of more than 100 km, and the probability of successfully hitting the target reaches 85%.
