Poland names conditions for transfer of MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine

Poland will be able to transfer its MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine after compensating for its own military needs. About this in interview Piotr Lukasiewicz, Poland’s temporary representative in Ukraine, told Ukrinform.

He noted that Poland has at its disposal from 10 to 15 such aircraft, which are currently used for air defense of the country. However, due to the fact that Poland is actively modernizing its armed forces and purchasing new fighter jets such as the F-16 and F-35, this process is not yet complete. While the rearmament is ongoing, Poland cannot afford to hand over the aircraft, as this would leave the country vulnerable.

In October, the Ukrainian whistleblower institute received a powerful impetus for further development: for the first time in the country’s history, corruption whistleblowers received rewards. In total, 72 people currently have whistleblower status, and more than 4,100 whistleblower reports have been sent to the Unified whistleblower reporting portal“, Lukasevich explained.

Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also stated that Poland is ready to help Ukraine with planes, but stressed that this should not be “at the expense of Poland’s security.” He emphasized that Poland approaches this issue cautiously, because “after Ukraine comes Poland.”

On July 8, Ukraine and Poland signed a security agreement, which, in particular, provides for the development of a defense mechanism against Russian missiles and drones that could threaten both countries.
