The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appealed to the governments and parliaments of the member states of the European Union, as well as to the European Commission and the Council of the EU, with a request to synchronize Ukrainian sectoral economic and other restrictive measures with the sanctions introduced by the EU. The relevant appeal was supported by the majority of people’s deputies – 304 votes “for”. As Zheleznyak noted, the resolution has number 11536.
The main purpose of this appeal is the need for closer coordination between Ukraine and the countries of the European Union regarding the application of sanctions mechanisms. Ukraine strives to achieve complete synchronization of restrictive measures with European sanctions in order to ensure a single and powerful line of countermeasures against Russian aggression. This will make it possible to increase the effectiveness of sanctions pressure on Russia, making impossible any detours through which the aggressor could avoid economic and financial restrictions.
The appeal of the Ukrainian parliament takes place against the background of the decision of the Council of the European Union to extend sanctions against 2,200 individuals and legal entities involved in aggression against Ukraine. The validity period of these sanctions has been extended until March 15, 2025. European restrictive measures include asset freezes, entry bans and other economic sanctions.
This decision of the Ukrainian parliament emphasizes the importance of synchronizing sanctions between Ukraine and the European Union, as joint efforts can increase economic pressure on Russia and contribute to a faster end to aggression. Ukraine is counting on the support of its European partners in achieving this goal and increasing the effectiveness of the sanctions policy.
