Renting housing in the EU has risen by almost 10%: where prices have risen the most

More than 3 million Ukrainians will live in different EU countries from 2022. At first, refugees were provided with free housing, then countries gradually began to close down asylums for migrants and cut spending on social assistance. Ukrainians who have found a job can rent an apartment or a room in European cities, but it is becoming more difficult, because during the year the average price for renting a house increased by 9.6%.
Currently, it is most expensive to rent real estate in the Netherlands, Portugal, Germany and France. Over the past year, prices have risen the most in Hungary and the Netherlands.
In particular, in Budapest, the cost of renting a one-room apartment increased by almost 43% on average, compared to the prices of 2023. The second and third places are occupied by the Dutch cities of The Hague (the rent of one-room apartments increased by 27.8%) and Utrecht (+25.8%).
As for the more economical option – studio apartments – during the year, the price of such housing increased most noticeably in the capital of Portugal, Lisbon. Prices for studios here have soared by 70%. In addition, prices increased by more than 33% in the Italian Florence and by 27% in the German Hamburg.
